Description Hamonite™ High-Temperature Refractory 1.2kg. Gameco’s own new formulation, developed specifically for creating Hamons in shallow-hardening steels. As a heat-set refractory, Hamonite™ is also excellent for use as an anti-scale compound, a thermal lining material in forges and a protective coating for your forge, minimising impacts and flux corrosion. Creating beautiful Hamons requires the correct steel, clay, heat and quench. Hamonite™ alone won’t achieve the best Hamons. However, leading makers state that it does provide the finest clay on the market for Hamon generation. As a thermoset mortar, Hamonite™ High-Temperature Refractory is not set until it is heated. Supplied in powder form for extended shelf life, it is mixed with water in the same way as Satanite. Simply adjust the ratio of powder to water to achieve desired consistencies. A slurry is preferred for coating refractory materials or for use as an anti-scale compound. A thicker paste is often applied to blades before heat treatment to create a Hamon.
